Slack

Connect the Ember Slack app, choose where Ember answers, and understand whose access it uses.

Ember answers data questions in Slack. Connect it during setup, then ask in a direct message, by mentioning @Ember in a channel, or in a thread Ember is already in. You can also ask on Home in Embrasure. See Ask Ember for how to ask good questions and correct answers.

Connect Slack

A workspace owner or admin in Embrasure selects Connect Slack in setup, or Connect Slack in the Set up Ember checklist on Home, and approves the Ember app in Slack. If your Slack workspace restricts app installs, a Slack admin may need to approve the request.

Then select Open Ember in Slack on the last setup screen. This turns on answers. It appears once a source and Slack are both connected. Until Ember is turned on, it replies that setup isn't finished.

You can also add Slack from Sources under Chat. That installs the app but does not turn on answers; finish from the Set up Ember checklist.

Where Ember answers

WhereHow
Direct messageEvery message to Ember gets an answer.
ChannelsMention @Ember. Add Ember to the channel first, for example with /invite @Ember.
ThreadsOnce Ember replies in a thread, follow-ups meant for Ember don't need another mention. Ember skips replies that are clearly for someone else.

Ember doesn't answer in shared channels, including Slack Connect channels, or answer bots or people outside your Slack workspace. Ember reads message text only; it doesn't open attached files, and it ignores edits to a message it has already seen.

If your Slack workspace is connected to more than one Embrasure workspace, mention @Ember switch workspace in a channel to choose which one that channel uses.

Whose access Ember uses

Ember answers with the Embrasure access of the owner or admin who connected Slack. Anyone in your Slack workspace who can message Ember can get answers drawn from every source that person can see, whether or not they have an Embrasure account.

Before you connect, check that the sources in your workspace are ones everyone in your Slack workspace may see. Keep sensitive data in a separate Embrasure workspace that isn't connected to Slack.

If the connecting admin leaves the workspace or loses the admin role, Ember stops answering and replies that its workspace access needs attention. Contact support@embrasure.ai to move Ember to another owner or admin.

Opening How Ember answered requires an Embrasure account linked to your Slack user, and access to the answer.

Insights

Ember can also post insights it finds in your data on its own. In Settings → Alerts, choose whether insights go privately to the person who connected Slack, to a shared channel, or nowhere.
